About this place
For a sweet treat, ippuku cafe offers several ways to enjoy matcha. The matcha donut with Eitaro bean paste and butter costs ¥650, as does the matcha shiruko with Eitaro bean paste at ¥650. Choose the donut for a light bite, or take your time over matcha shiruko with shiratama dumplings. There is also matcha soft-serve, or a matcha-and-vanilla swirl, for a simple after-meal treat. A matcha ice-cream parfait and Edo anmitsu topped with soft-serve are options when you want dessert to take centre stage.
One diner who tried the Edo anmitsu soft-serve said they enjoyed the taste as well as its appearance. Another recalled pairing a matcha donut with Sumida Coffee’s original blend, finding the coffee’s deep, robust flavour a good match for Japanese sweets. The blend is available hot or iced for ¥550, while a latte costs ¥650. The blend suits those who want coffee alongside a sweet, while the latte offers a milky alternative.
For a light meal, Fukagawa meshi onigiri and shrimp tempura onigiri are each ¥550. If you’re after something more substantial, there’s a monjayaki sandwich for ¥800 or one with mentaiko and cheese for ¥850. A vegetable sandwich is also available, making the cafe an option for a meal as well as a sweet treat.
One visitor recalled stopping for coffee after exploring the museum. The cafe has seating for eating in and offers lunch options. Whether you fancy a coffee and something sweet or want to take the edge off your hunger with an onigiri or sandwich, you can choose to suit your appetite between exhibits.
